Colonial days were heavenly
published: Tuesday | September 7, 2004

THE EDITOR, SIR:

AS A senior citizen who has lived all of my life in Jamaica, I can compare my experience of the colonial days with independent Jamaica. I cannot help but wonder if this is what Mr. Norman Manley and Sir Alexander Bustamante had in mind for this country. These leaders have created a nation of iron and clay. Some people were born JLP and others were born PNP.

Each party has its own dons who rule garrison constituencies. The leaders condone the dons who are not willing to be led by the Almighty. They have no regard for our beautiful National Anthem. They themselves have become evil powers, having neither mercy nor justice. Our leaders advise us to tighten our belts so often that only our faces identify which side our bellies are, while our Great House Masters are like pregnant women.

Our leaders have no vision; they only have nightmares about how to win elections. Our roads, schools and hospitals are deplorable, while greed for power and riches prevails.

I believe colonial days were heavenly when I compare them to the present. I would advise our leaders to read Micah 6:8 "What does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."

I am, etc.,
