Home :: Letters :: Police are already overworked

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I STRONGLY object to police personnel being placed in schools but not for the same reasons stated by many in the media. The police force is under tremendous pressure and needs reinforcement in numbers and psychological support. It is a miracle more of them do not crack under the physical and mental strain they are currently facing. They have too much work to do and parents, teachers and civil society need to take more responsibility for our young people and their behaviour, and allow the police to tackle hardened criminals and organized crime.

I sincerely hope the powers that be will re-think this proposal, well-intentioned as it may be, and let the police continue to perform their core function, with God's help and the support of all law-abiding Jamaicans.

I am, etc.,

K. HENRY
