Rayon Dyer, Gleaner Writer BLACK RIVER: ALUMINA PARTNERS Jamaica Limited (Alpart) has assisted over 250 families in Essex Valley, St. Elizabeth with back-to- school supplies benefiting a significant number of children who returned to school on Monday, September 6. The programme, directed at helping students in need with text books, uniform material and other school related items was co- ordinated by Alpart employees and the Alpart Community Council. Speaking at a recent presentation ceremony at Essex Valley, public relations officer of Alpart Lance Neita, said the back-to-school assistance effort is an ongoing project of the company in its operating area. He said that the residents have been grateful every year for the assistance to them. "The Alpart community council has been an integral part of this back-to-school assistance programme. We committed to this process over the years and we will continue to help those in need", said Mr. Neita. Chairman of the Alpart Community Council Lenworth Blake, congratulated the company on its efforts to assist the residents with well needed school supplies. He said that Alpart, with its timely assistance to the back-to-school assistance projects, has demonstrated a true interest in the educational development of St. Elizabeth. The back-to-school assistance programme by Alpart has also been executed by the Parish Disaster Relief Committee, where 63 families who were flooded out by Hurricane Charley, were assisted with school assistance vouchers. The company has also presented several book vouchers for primary and all-age school students valued at $70,000 each.
