FEAR OF failure or the tendency of giving up is not a part of the gospel group 'His Anointed'. They are a group with a mission and a purpose and they will not stop until they have achieved what the will of God has ordained for their lives.

Since their inception in 1999, 'His Anointed' has had to withstand the test of time and many trials, but they have survived and are clearing the hurdles in their way as they continue to work hard to spread the message of God.

TALENTED BUNCH OF SINGERS

The group was formed in 1999 in the Pentecostal City Mission Church in Portmore, St. Catherine, under the influence of Pastor Rev. Jethro Hart. At that time the group consisted of four members. However, like many groups, the faces and numbers have changed with time. Now the group consists of seven members, namely Damion Griffiths, Esrick Morgan, Evelyn Thompson, Kereen Benjamin, Mona Lisa and Renae Bryan. In addition, this talented bunch of singers also has keyboardist Dwayne Hart and drummer Orane Hart in the fold.

In 2001 the group made their first venture into the unknown, when they entered the Jamaica Cultural Development (JCDC) Gospel Song competition, with Need A Love.

Despite not making the final 10, group leader Damion Griffiths says the exposure and experience was good for the group. "That experience was a major push for us, even though we only made it to the semi-finals and, although disappointed, this was an encouragement for us," Griffiths said.

They released the entry as a single, along with two cover songs.

TOUCHING LIVES

"Our music was touching lives and was greatly loved by those who heard it," group member Damion Griffiths said. As a result, the group began to gain more visibility. They landed a radio interview on Love 101 FM and secured a couple gigs to perform with big names like Goddy Goddy, Prodigal Son, Chevelle Franklin, Papa San, Sister Scully, Sandra Brooks and others.

In 2002, after building their confidence and maturing in their musical ministry, 'His Anointed' again entered the JCDC Gospel Song competition, but again they did not make it to the finals.

However, the group was by no means dismayed, as lead vocalist Damion Griffiths says they plan to keep faith and hope that the Lord will one day take them to a place of higher heights.

"We plan to take it (the music) as far as the will of God will take us," he said.
