LOCAL POLICE authority, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says it is ready to deal with the challenges of Hurricane Ivan but has urged property and business owners to do as much as they can to secure themselves in the event of looting. "Based on the arrangement with Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and our own resources, that should facilitate a reasonably comfortable response ( to any criminal activity arising)," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tilford Johnson. DCP Johnson said that although the police would be on high alert during the hurricane, persons should do as much as they can to ensure that their businesses and homes are secure. "Persons who have arrangements with security companies should look at how best they can enhance those," he said. The current policing plan in response to Ivan is now in effect across all 19 geographic police divisions and will remain effective during and soon after the hurricane passes.
