Home :: Letters :: Post office ceiling falling apart

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PLEASE GIVE me just a small space in your column to express my concern about the bad condition of the ceiling at the Morant Bay Post Office. This is a situation that has existed for many years, and nothing has been done to remedy the health hazard which the falling ceiling materials pose to the workers.

The questions I would like to ask are as follows:

(1) Is there a system in place to take time out and make checks on these Government buildings, and be sure they are safe enough for people to work?

(2) If there is a system, when was the Morant Bay Post Office inspected?

(3) Is there a safety standard for Government buildings different from privately-owned buildings?

I must commend those workers at the post office for their professionalism under such adverse conditions.

This is not a matter to be taken lightly. I am calling on the relevant authority to remedy the situation.

I am, etc.,

J.A. BAILEY

Dalvey P.O.
