Jamaican images in the eyes of the world
THE EDITOR, Sir: FIRST, ON behalf of concerned Jamaicans here in South Florida, I would like to send our heart-felt condolences to the families that have lost loved ones.
It was a miracle
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT WAS a miracle as seen from the GOES NOAA satellite. Ivan did the unpredictable. Ivan, an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane, was supposed to enter Jamaica at Kingston, move across the island and exit near Montego Bay.
We are blessed
THE EDITOR, Sir: AS I sat in my room at the Cave Hill campus, I nervously fidgeted with my phone waiting for a call from home, because for two hours I was unsuccessful in getting a response from my family in Jamaica.
Looting and shooting
THE EDITOR, Sir: EXPRESSIONS OF outrage at the reprehensible behaviour of those who took advantage of our vulnerabilities during the hurricane by looting and shooting, and adding to the carnage, were at the forefront of discussions on Ivan.
A mad year for tropical storms
THE EDITOR, Sir: MY THOUGHTS and prayers go out to the victims of Hurricane Ivan. This is a mad year for tropical storms in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean. I am a resident of a central Florida community and I consider myself one of the lucky ones.
The ham radio operators
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WOULD like to thank the ham radio operators across the world especially a gentleman in London, Ontario, Canada...
The Gleaner, phone companies
THE EDITOR, Sir: I'D LIKE to take this oppor-tunity to thank the Gleaner Company for the wonderful work they have done in hosting Power 106 on their site.
Helpful cops
THE EDITOR, Sir: IN AUGUST, I was visiting Jamaica for two weeks. While my mother and I were travelling near Harbour Street in downtown Kingston, we were forced to pull over in an unsafe spot because our vehicle had a flat tyre.
