THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT WAS a miracle as seen from the GOES NOAA satellite. Ivan did the unpredictable. Ivan, an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane, was supposed to enter Jamaica at Kingston, move across the island and exit near Montego Bay. But due to unforeseen forces Ivan's eye approached Kingston within 40 miles of the port and stopped, wobbled back and forth for hours, then slowly backed away 60 miles from the coast and pounded the island for 24 hours as it drifted west turning toward the Cayman Islands.

The hurricane hammered Jamaica, causing flooding and severe damage, however, had Ivan's eye moved across the Jamaican mainland as predicted, the island would have been utterly decimated.

I am, etc.,
