Home :: Letters :: The ham radio operators

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to thank the ham radio operators across the world especially a gentleman in London, Ontario, Canada, who called me in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada to let me know that he had heard my father (Rupert Walford in Reading) over the airwaves asking for someone to please contact his daughter in Canada to let her know that he was OK.

When I received the call from the ham radio operator Rocky, I was ever so grateful for the news. We have kept in contact as the days have passed and my father is able to operate his radio in between mopping up water and trying to fix the hole in the roof of his house due to the wrath of Hurricane Ivan. When hurricane Gilbert hit in 1988, I was blessed then to have a Ham radio operator in Toronto contact me to let me know my dad was safe.

These Ham radio operators are angels in disguise and I am proud to be a part of their family as I know my father is. Thanks again 'Radio Angels' on the airwaves for connecting a father to his daughter from so far away.

I am, etc.,

DIONNE WALFORD-

WARNE
