No risk to travellers
published: Friday | September 24, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As a citizen of both the Jamaica and the United States I am appalled by the recent travel advisories issued by the US State Department. Yes we had some difficulties reaching our loved ones via the phone during the storm and some even now mostly due to drained batteries; but advising that one should not travel to Jamaica or leave only serves to hurt an already strained economy.

I have seen firsthand a lot of the damage on the island. Due to the inability to reach my wife in the Negril area, I travelled from Portmore to Negril on Sunday, and returned on Monday. Yes the damage is bad but there is no risk to travellers.

I am, etc.,
