Simple things we love
published: Sunday | September 26, 2004

THE SIMPLE things in life are often accompanied by the greatest joys. Here are some of life's cost-free but pleasurable pursuits which some of our readers shared with us:

  • I like turning off all the lights in my house, lying on the carpet and playing music. When the entire house is in darkness, it feels as if the music is in every room.

    -Trudy, UWI student, Kingston.

  • I like to get up before 5 in the morning, sit on my porch and watch the day dawn. It's cool and the day really feels new. My mind is blank and I just enjoy.

    - Marie, researcher, St. Catherine.

  • I like lying down on the park bench in Emancipation Park early mornings and cool evenings and staring at the sky. You breathe deeply. The air is so fresh.

    -Hannah, writer, Kingston

  • I love the moment just before I open a new book. Four hundred pages of adventure and intrigue waiting to be enjoyed is enough to make me salivate.

    - Stacia, accountant, Kingston.

  • When I am really hungry there is nothing I like more than two slices of soft, white bread and a perfectly ripe, cool banana. Yumm!

    -Andrea, contracts clerk, Kingston.

  • I like coming into work at 6 a.m. when the office is empty and silent. By the time everyone else gets here, I have completed all the most important things.

    - Naree, clerk, Kingston.

  • I love talking about old times with friends. It's better than going to a club.

    - Trudy, student, Kingston.

  • The best times for me include visiting the beach, especially those on the south coast at off-peak hours. I love Alligator Pond, Font Hill Beach and the rivers. It's great, there is no one, no hotels for miles around.

    - Karlene, secretary, Kingston

  • I love to drink wine in perfect silence and alone. No, I am not an alcoholic.

    - Grace, hairstylist, Kingston

  • I like going out of town overnight with my husband and child the whole family. Getting away is a plus.

    - Deidre, teacher, Kingston

  • I like just sitting on my verandah relaxing and just doing nothing.

    - Charmaine, stenographer, Kingston.

  • I love talking nonsense with my best friend on the phone. We talk about serious things too, but I just like to hear the sound of his voice and he always makes me laugh.

    - Beverley, med.tech. St. Catherine.

  • I like going down to the Kingston Harbour and feel the breeze coming off the water.

    - Thelma, secretary, Kingston.

  • I like to wake up in the nights and kiss my baby daughter all over. She loves it, but then she gets miserable and fans me away.

    - Ann, communications, Kingston.

  • I love waking in the morning and thinking about my special one. She does not live with me. But she is there with me in the mornings in my thoughts.

    - James, administrator, Kingston.

    All names changed as requested.
