Burrell secures one more FIFA job
published: Sunday | September 26, 2004

CAPTAIN HORACE Burrell, senior vice president and CONCACAF executive committee member, has picked up yet another FIFA appointment. The former Jamaica Football Federation boss was given an instructor's job by FIFA with its recently created COM-UNITY programme.

FIFA has often expressed its admiration for the programme developed by Jamaica when it qualified for the France '98' World Cup and consequently FIFA's "Course Programmes Department" was mandated to develop a curriculum of similarity.

Burrell will depart for the FIFA head office in Switzerland on October 5 for a seminar and instructions on his new appointment. He will return to Jamaica on October 9.

AWARENESS

COM-UNITY is a presidential programme whose purpose is to improve awareness of the value football can have in a country. As such, the course is intended to improve co-operation and communication between a member association, its government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working within the country, other partners and the media. The programme further distributes knowledge on communication and marketing skills to help national associations attract partners and sponsors.

Burrell will be required to conduct courses in member countries of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF).
