A 'Day of Thanksgiving'
published: Monday | September 27, 2004

THE EDITOR: Sir

SEEING THE devastation that has taken place in Grand Cayman, Haiti and Grenada, I have concluded that as a country we have much to be thankful for. It would appear that natural disasters have been a problem worldwide this year. Even Japan has had 19 typhoons this year, 35 per cent more than normal.

In view of all this it seems to me that it would be in order for the Prime Minister to declare a 'Day of Thanksgiving' for the obvious mercy of God Almighty. We must also plead for continued mercies as it would appear that we are in a period of natural disasters. The continued bloodletting in our country is even more reason to plead for the mercy of God Almighty.

Incidentally, I noticed that the Prime Minister has not publicly given thanks to 'God Almighty' for us having been spared Ivan's full brunt. He instead used a phrase encouraging us to give thanks "whatever our religious belief maybe." The Prime Minister should note that there are still some of us who like to hear our leaders publicly acknowledge the name of the Lord God Almighty.

I am, etc.,

S. RICHARD
