THE EDITOR, Sir:
The 'Letter of the Day' in The Gleaner of Thursday, Sept-ember 16, 2004, captioned 'Overcoming the tragedy facing the challenge', written by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Alfred Reid, Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, was indeed a sermon well spoken.
In the letter, he captured the historical time and the thanksgiving time after Hurricane Ivan.
In my opinion, it was a message of warning to the nation to take heed and turn from our wicked ways.
Minutes before 'Ivan The Terrible' as was described by many arrived in Jamaica, the Prime Minister was criticised for announcing the declaration for a national state of emergency. In the midst of Ivan's visit, there was looting and shooting and immediately after Ivan's departure the 'cass-cass' began against the Minister of Education.
How far forward ever do we expect to go if this type of climate prevails?
No wonder, one writer titled his letter 'Criminals worse than Ivan'.
Please I entreat everyone to read and reread and digest the bishop's letter.
On behalf of my family, I wish to thank you, bishop.
I am, etc.,
