B'dos reception for WI team
published: Monday | September 27, 2004

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua, CMC:

A WELCOME reception has been planned for members of the West Indies team that clinched the ICC Champions Trophy limited-overs cricket series in England on Saturday.

In almost complete darkness, Ian Bradshaw square drove a delivery from Alex Wharf through backward point for four to end West Indies' 25-year wait for a major piece of silverware when they completed a dramatic two-wicket triumph over England in the final.

The West Indies Cricket Board, in association with the Barbados Cricket Association and team sponsors LNM Group, will host a reception at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados to greet the team members on their return from Britain today.

WELCOMING PARTY

The team is due to arrive shortly before 3:00 p.m. (East Caribbean Time) today and the welcoming party will include Teddy Griffith, president of the WICB, John Kuriyan, managing director of Caribbean Ispat, a member of the India-based LNM Group, as well as senior officials of both organisations and the BCA.

The programme begins promptly at 4:00 p.m. and includes a news conference prior to the reception.

Members of the team begin leaving for their home countries later this evening.

The ICC Champions Trophy is the second-most prestigious limited-overs competition in world cricket, surpassed only by the ICC World Cup that West Indies will host in three years time.
