THE EDITOR, Sir:

YESTERDAY WAS celebrated as World Tourism Day and I am elated that a special day was set aside to celebrate this vital industry. Tourism has in recent years become one of the greatest earners of much needed foreign exchange and has also opened the doors of opportunity for many job seekers.

As the competition heightens worldwide with other countries aggressively trying to get in on the action, the local industry must strive to stay ahead. This can be achieved through continuous employee training, superior service delivery and effective marketing and public relations strategies that will produce tangible results.

As an employee of this industry, I am motivated by the fact that I can contribute to the growth and development of Jamaica through my own efforts and also the efforts of others. I would like to give kudos to the deserving management and team of the Hilton Kingston hotel of which I am a part. A dedicated and hardworking set of men and women who work assiduously to give and maintain high standards in their service delivery to guests and clients. I say to the Hilton Kingston Team, "Keep the flag flying high as you continue to contribute positively to the growth of the hotel and tourism industry".
