THE EDITOR, Sir:
AS A Jamaican who studied and lived overseas I know what it feels like to miss home, family and friends. This experience has radically transformed the way I feel about Jamaica and I am sure many of my fellow countrymen and women who are represented in almost every nation of the earth can attest to this enlightening and bonding experience with 'team Jamaica'.
Jamaica might possibly be one of the few countries that has as many of its citizens living abroad as are living at home. The outpouring of love, empathy, camaraderie, tangible gifts and support of our 'Diaspora brothers and sisters' during and after the passage of Hurricane Ivan was absolutely amazing and heart-warming.
It is against this background that I want to commend the on-line print media, Cable and Wireless, Digicel, CVM TV, Cable TV, Radio Jamaica Group and Power 106 for facilitating and establishing the bridge to overseas Jamaican with their homeland. You allowed friends and families from across the globe to link hands and hearts together in prayers and faith while we at home were experiencing a most difficult and traumatic time. You facilitated the good times during the Olympics but this time you outdid yourself and surpassed our expectations. Kudos to you all!
Commendations also to the remittance companies, who discounted their money transfer charges so that relatives and friends overseas could dispatch funds to us in Jamaica. Thanks Corporate Jamaica for the way you have responded and the way you have kept 'team Jamaica' together.
I am, etc.,
