"I feel better knowing that they wanted me to win and I wouldn't want to win unless I am the public's choice."
THAT IS how the new Miss Jamaica World, Tonoya Toyloy describes her response to her win on Sunday. "I knew I could do it, at the same time anything could happen," said the obviously elated beauty queen backstage following her win.
Toyloy was also the winner of the Public Vote. Now a feature of the competition for the third year, the public serves as the eleventh judge and helps to decide who becomes its representative to the Miss World Pageant in China come year end. "I feel better knowing that they wanted me to win and I wouldn't want to win unless I am the public's choice," said Toyloy.
Amidst the frequent distractions of friends stopping to congratulate the new queen, Toyloy spoke of her fellow contestants. "I would thank them for all the support and I would definitely want to continue to be friends," she said. "I know that they will be disappointed, but I know that they will go on to live successful and full lives."
For those who didn't win, their work has ended; for Toyloy however, the job has just begun.
