THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WOULD like to commend the National Water Commission (NWC) on its swift action in restoring water to our community after the passage of Hurricane Ivan.
I, for one, was pleasantly surprised at the short period of inconvenience we suffered. This suggests to me that the NWC was prepared for the emergency. Also, I conclude from their rapid response in restoring water to several communities all over the island that the company's many water distribution and treatment plants were being properly maintained before the hurricane.
We were grateful for the supply of "brown water" which we received as early as Sunday. This allowed us to conserve on water for drinking by using the coloured liquid to flush our toilets.
Additionally, the continuous update on the situation issued by the NWC was greatly appreciated, as the information contributed to easing our minds and relieving the stress of wondering about what was happening in relation to our supply.
Including advice to the consumers in most of their commentaries regarding the treatment of drinking water showed concern and responsibility.
Thank you, NWC, for a performance beyond the call of duty in our time of difficulty.
I am, etc.,
JOHN GODFREY
