THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WRITE in response to your staff writer Robert Lalah's article of Friday, September 24, 2004, titled, 'The Ivan Phenomenon'. His article seems to suggest that there is a conflict between science and God in the minds of many, but let me point out that there is no conflict between science and God, as God is the Creator of science. He created and established scientific principles by which the world operates. Hence, God is very familiar with working with science.
It must, however, be borne in mind and be recognised, that the spiritual realm in which God operates creates the natural. Hebrews 11:3 says, "The visible comes out of the invisible". Science, which operates the physical elements, is controlled by the spiritual. This is what enables miracles to work, in response to prayers of faith. It is not that there is no scientific explanation, but the spiritual supersedes and directs science at specific times.
Mr. Lalah should ask Mr. Knabb from the National Hurricane Centre in Miami to explain how did Jesus still the raging storm on the Sea of Galilee, or how did the fig tree dry up within days of Jesus cursing it? How did Jesus turn water into wine? We must all understand that just as how there are physical laws and scientific laws, so there are spiritual laws. God who is sovereign over all, can and does from time to time, intervene and supersede any of the other laws to do His will. He can either speed them up, slow them down or reorder their action temporarily. It is this action that produces what is called a MIRACLE. Miracles can be spiritually and scientifically explained. Further, we who are the servants of God, in relationship with Him, have been given power and authority to perform miracles by the Spirit of God where and when it is necessary.
In Hurricane Ivan and previous crisis situations we have had to apply God's miracle power to override the natural laws to bring deliverance. God has not changed how He works, He continues to do so in and through those who trust Him. The Bible and history are filled with examples.
