Reconstruction office launches public campaign
published: Wednesday | September 29, 2004

THE OFFICE of National Reconstruction (ONR) yesterday launched a multimedia public motivational campaign dubbed 'A Time to Sow', in an attempt to ease the stress and emotional distress caused by the passage of Hurricane Ivan.

The ONR introduced the programme in an effort to "persuade and motivate people to work together to re-build their communities, businesses, and country". The sponsors are: The Gleaner Company Limited, RJR Communications Group, Prism Communications, Vidquip Limited, Mongoose Productions, and Power 106 FM.

Speaking at the launch of the motivational campaign at the ONR's office in New Kingston, Danville Walker, chief executive officer, noted that "Hurricanes and other natural disasters are always going to be a threat to us, so what is important is how we deal with it. When things do not go our way, it is a time to sow, so that one day we may reap again."

DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE

The ONR's message to the public is to be delivered through three full-page, full-colour advertisements per week in both The Gleaner and THE STAR; four 45-second radio advertisements per day on RJR FM, FAME FM, Radio 92 FM, and Power 106 FM; and two television advertisements per night on TVJ.

These advertisements, which are designed to encourage patriotism and a national spirit of self-help and selflessness in sharing with others, started yesterday, with the exception of the television advertisements. These are scheduled to start later this week.

The campaign is set to run for the next four weeks and the advertising being contributed by the various sponsors is valued at $7 million.
