By Howard Walker, Staff ReporterJAMAICAN DEFENDER Damion 'Stew Peas' Stewart has had his two-week trial stint at Stoke City extended by another week because the management wanted to see more of him, says Clyde Jureidini, general manager of Harbour View Football Club.
"Stoke City wanted to have an additional week for him to play with the team so they can look at him a little bit more in terms of an evaluation," Jureidini told The Gleaner.
The 24-year-old Stewart went on trial on September 9 and is slated to return home on Sunday and, according to Jureidini, he has settled in well and is hoping for the best.
"It has been going well but we will wait and see what happens and what they announce," he said.
Stewart, who had an outstanding game against El Salvador on Wednesday, September 8 while replacing the suspended Ian Goodison, has had few chances to impress John Rudge, Stoke director of football.
Rudge had earlier made his intention clear that he wanted to sign new players as the club looked to maintain its superb start to the season.
NEW PLAYERS
"We are looking for players who will strengthen the squad and keep us in the top six," Rudge told BBC Sports. "At the moment we are operating with a very small squad of 15 or 16 players and that is not enough," Rudge also mentioned.
Stoke recently snapped up much-travelled winger Steve Guppy following his recent release by Leeds United. The former Leicester and Celtic midfielder signed a one-month deal.
The red and white-clad Stoke City or the 'Potters' are currently fourth in the English League Championship, which is one division lower than the Premier League.
