Glenmuir, C'don remain perfect
published: Thursday | September 30, 2004

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

GLENMUIR HIGH School and former champions Clarendon College maintained their perfect win records in the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup after scoring wins over Kemps Hill and Claude McKay High respectively yesterday.

Glenmuir beat second-placed Kemps Hill in Zone I to run their record to four straight, joining Cornwall College and Titchfield High as schools with four wins in a row while Clarendon College had to work hard to beat Claude McKay 1-0 in their Zone H encounter.

The win, Clarendon's third straight, took them to level on points with Lennon, who could retain the lead this afternoon with at least a point against Kellits High at Brancourt.

Meanwhile, Anchovy High and Petersfield High scored their first wins of the season, beating St. James High in Zone A and Black River in Zone C respectively.

Calvin Buchanan scored twice and Wesley Jarrett got one as Anchovy blanked St. James 3-0 in their game at Jarrett Park to move off the bottom of the points standings past Anchovy.

Petersfield carved out a 2-1 win over Black River and vaulted two places into second place in Zone C behind leaders Godfrey Stewart with three points.

At Knockalva, the home team earned their third straight 1-1 draw after rallying against Grange Hill.

Delan Crooks made good use of a gift from Knockalva defender Andre Hanson, who chested down a ball at his feet and the Grange Hill striker knocked it one time past goalkeeper Davin Watkin in the 16th minute.

The lead lasted all of three minutes before the Grange Hill goalkeeper Ricardo James tried in vain to swat at a free kick from Fitzroy Campbell but only succeeded in helping the ball into his own goal.

Defending champions Frome Technical maintained the lead in Zone B despite being held to their second straight draw, 0-0 by Merlene Ottey at Pond Side.

Frome lead with five points, one more than Grange Hill and Merlene Ottey with Knockalva a point back with former champions Rusea's on one point from two games played.
