LETTER OF THE DAY - We need to know our Creator
published: Sunday | October 3, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS the first time that I write to the Editor, and it is in response to the 'Letter of the Day' carried in The Sunday Gleaner of September 26, 2004 entitled 'Hurricane not a natural 'disaster''.

It appears to me that the writer has never had personal interaction with the glorious, loving God who has been my personal friend for as long as I can remember. The most disturbing thing to me in his letter is the suggestion that 'God is a principle' and exercises "no discretion in such matters". Oh, if Mr. Greenwood only knew! I shudder to think that one could live one's life in total and never know our Creator in His capacity as loving Father, Friend, Brother, Helper, Defender, Counsellor, and I could go on and on. I am not guessing I know! I have experienced Him!

Neither you nor your readers would want a sermon from me, an office manager, and a lay person in the church, so let me just state briefly that if anyone really wants an idea as to what God is like and how He acts, besides reading the Bible scriptures, then he/she should consider what takes place in the ideal family setting disciplined father, understanding mother, wonderful interaction amongst the siblings that is how God is to me. He brushes me off when I fall, He laughs when I laugh, He grants my little or big requests as wisdom dictates, and is everything the situation calls for at the time.

On Saturday September 25, 2004 I was out shopping with my sister, and not saying anything to her, I thought of a cosmetic product I would like to try. I had no idea of what it is called or where it could be purchased. Shortly after, we stopped at a seldom visited plaza, and as we passed a certain store she suggested we stop in and take a look. You know what I found? The very product I was wanting. Coincidence? Not so, not when this has been the experience for 50 plus years.

I am, etc.,
