Village to honour Powell
published: Sunday | October 3, 2004

NATIONAL 100 metres record holder Asafa Powell will be the special guest at Elliston Wakeland this afternoon when Village United, the home team, tackle National Premier League champions Waterhouse.

According to Steve Bennett of Village United, who have placed third in the NPL for the past two years, Powell is a national treasure to be embraced.

"Village United and the people of Trelawny embrace this national treasure and will make a special presentation to express our appreciation to this phenomenal athlete," Bennett said.

"The Trelawny community is blessed to be the birthplace of Veronica Campbell, Jamaica's phenomenal golden girl and Usain 'Lightning' Bolt, world junior record holder over 200m. Village United F.C hopes to honour these great Jamaicans in a similar manner at an appropriate time," he said.

"We believe Trelawny is a place for champions and as the club sets out in honouring these champions, we are preparing ourselves to join this wonderful array of winners."
