Clarendon edge former leaders Lennon
published: Sunday | October 3, 2004

WESTERN BUREAU:

CLARENDON COLLEGE took over the lead in Zone H of the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup yesterday after edging former leaders Lennon High 1-0 in their feature game at Brancourt.

Both teams went into the game tied on points and separated only by goal-difference but yesterday's win carried the former six-time champs three points clear as Edwin Allen edged Kellits 1-0 to move closer to Lennon with nine points.

Clarendon became the third school to win their first five games after Titchfield and Glenmuir.

UPSET

The big upset of the day came in Zone L where runaway leaders Titchfield were clipped 1-0 by Happy Grove, who scored their first ever win over the two-time finalists.

Happy Grove's win ended Titchfield's win streak at five games but they still hold a three-point lead over Seaforth High, who were 3-0 winners over Yallahs. Titchfield are on 15 points from six games.

Cornwall College also lost their 100 per cent win record after they were held to a 0-0 draw at Jarrett Park by Anchovy High in Zone A while Sedane McCreath scored twice in defending champions Frome Technical's 4-0 demolition of rivals Rusea's in Lucea in Zone B.

This was the second loss of the season for the former champions, both coming at home, and left them at the bottom of the five-team zone with one point from three games.

There were two hat-trick scorers yesterday.

, Leighton Holness scored three times for Christiana in their 5-0 win over Alston after beating them 5-1 in the first round.

This was Christiana's third win in a row and 10 of their 11 goals have come against Alston.

The other hat-trick was scored by Dwight Wilson in Old Harbour's 4-0 win over Ewarton in Zone J as they moved into second place on six points behind leaders and two-time champions Dinthill Technical, who beat Bog Walk 3-1.
