Helping out in my own way
published: Monday | October 4, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THANKS TO everyone who has helped me. Right now I am doing my share to help everyone down there. Helping to keep the tourists from NOT cancelling their trips. There are many interesting and lively forums like jamaicans.com, go-jamaica.com and tripadvisor.com. I have written over 100 posts on this one. Letters to convince the tourists NOT to cancel their trips and giving them logical reasons that I have discovered and dug up from other sites in Jamaica and Miami.

Each day I get all the news from these vital Jamaican sites. In other words I am like a relay runner. I pick up the news from down there, translate and post it on the sites that the American tourists are more familiar with. I answer each and every question with facts and if possible a photograph. If I have a newspaper report then I will attach it.

It has been very hectic but enjoyable. At first, the tourists wanted to know ONLY about their hotel reservations. I got on their case and scolded each one of them for not asking about the Jamaican people and their families. Now they refer to the people first and then their hotel reservations. I have even asked the tourists to take extra money and clothing for the citizens around the hotels.

So I feel good about helping out in my own way. Everyone has shared their stories with me. Information from all around the island, especially the hard-hit Negril area. At the end of each day I feel that I have spent the day in Jamaica. It is a wonderful experience. Thank you.

I am etc.
