A change of heart
published: Monday | October 4, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WAS one of those persons who heavily criticised the choice of Miss Jamaica 2004. But I have recently had a change of heart as I've had a chance to watch over the competition plus I saw her in real life. Only to find out she's actually very attractive. Still not the Miss Jamaica quality that many of us wanted, but attractive nonetheless.

I think in the heat of the moment I was disappointed in the fact that my favourites did not advance because their interviews weren't very impressive during the pageant. Yesterday I read an article by Latoya Morris entitled 'Warped Concept Of Beauty' and I found she had a good point. The prettiest one really and truly wasn't as smart. And the smartest wasn't the prettiest.

Also, the quality of the performance by Voicemail was very inappropriate. Especially when they sang about 'Do di breast' and did the gesticulations. My parents were in shock. So, Mr. Haughton, you need to raise the standard. But I guess it just goes to show, there are no more "perfect packages" being built. So we just have to take what we get and make the best of it. That's life... As for the people who thought Latoya was being racist, they need serious help!

I am, etc.,
