Concerned for my country

THE EDITOR, Sir:AS I read Ian Boyne's article on the issue of homosexuality and dancehall artistes' touting violence, I can't help but be concerned for my country. A few years ago while living on dorm at Jamaica's second university, I remember being frequently in serious debate with other persons because I took the stand that homosexuals are humans who have a choice, and their choice does not deserve the consequence of death.
These discussions usually ended with me being labelled and regardless of the fact that I would outline my total intolerance of homosexuality that is the act itself I often found myself being chastised. There is a very crucial and worrying point that Mr. Boyne outlined in his column. That point is that homosexuals tend to feel that any view in opposition to their lifestyle is 'homophobic'.
I think the Government should take a strong stand against artistes who promote violence against any group of people (this must include informants, persons who practice oral sex etc.) while ensuring that as a people we are protected from the moral degeneration that many first world countries now suffer from. I really would be worried if the Government allowed homosexuals to con our children into thinking that homosexuality is a normal and acceptable behaviour.
I am, etc.,
