Harbour View out to keep pace
published: Wednesday | October 6, 2004

LeVaughn Flynn, Staff Reporter

HARBOUR VIEW are looking to join Tivoli Gardens and Waterhouse as early leaders in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League as they play their season opening game today.

Harbour View, who had five of their players on national duty in Jamaica's 2-2 draw with Guatemala in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, pleaded for a postponement of Sunday's game and will host Invaders at the Compound at 3:30 p.m.

In another rescheduled game, Arnett Gardens will travel to Frome to face Reno also at 3:30 p.m. after their match was not played on Sunday because of a water-logged field.

Last year's beaten finalists and perennial favourites, Harbour View are looking for an early three points.

"We want to join the early pacesetters," said Harbour View's coach, Donovan Hayles, yesterday, referring to Tivoli and Waterhouse who are on three points each.

EXPECTING VICTORIES

Both teams had wins over Wadadah and Village United respectively and Hayles said he is expecting a victory as well.

"We are at home and we want to make a good start to the season," he said.

Harbour View will be without Jermaine Hue and Christopher Harvey who are serving one-game suspensions issued from last season and Robert Scarlett who is injured but will be bolstered by new players Thomas Grant and Under-20 captain Jermaine Taylor.

Grant will be joined up front by Luton Shelton as he faces his old team.

"He is bent on doing well and making a good impression," said Hayles of Grant. "There is no pressure on him to perform well - particularly against his former team."

Invaders finished 10th last season, just escaping relegation and have lost the services of Winston Anglin, Richard McCallum and Grant.

Their coach, Cassman Williams, knows today's match-up will be tough but said once his team "comes out on the day and allows the ball to do the work" it will be in good shape.
