Content Gardens win St Ann competition
published: Thursday | October 7, 2004

DISCOVERY BAY:

CONTENT GARDENS Cricket Club won the Kaiser Bauxite Company sponsored St. Ann Cricket League when they defeated Lodge Cricket Club by 107 runs in the final played at the Kaiser Sports Club in Discovery Bay on Saturday.

Scores: Content Gardens 163; Lodge 56.

Content Gardens, despite playing without their top player, Olanzo Harris, displayed some good cricket skills to outclass Lodge with captain Howard Harris taking four wickets and Damion Wilmot claiming three.

St. Ann all-rounder Courtney Laing led Content to the championship with a brilliant score of 60 and was supported by Patrick Harty, 33, Lindley Coach, 16, and Damion Wilmot, 14.

Lodge won the toss and put in Content Gardens who immediately lost their top batsman, Dean Richards, for a first-ball duck off pace bowler Anthony Green.

Wickets continued to tumble as the match progressed and at one stage Content were 48 for five. However, Harty and Laing brought back the team into the game with a seventh-wicket stand of 48 to take the score to 102 before Harty was out, caught by Damion Walker off Richard Hoilett.
