The students apologised
published: Sunday | October 17, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CONCERN HAS been expressed in the media and elsewhere about the fact that the thanksgiving service for Emeritus Professor Gladstone Mills had to be transferred from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Chapel to St. Margaret's Church because of the protest demonstrations carried out by students on the day in question.

In light of this, and in the interest of disclosing facts relevant to an incident which received public attention, I would like to advise that Mr. Damion Crawford, president of the Guild of Students of the University of the West Indies called me on the morning of the funeral to express his regrets about the effect the protests were having on the arrangements, and asked me to convey his apologies to the rest of the Mills family.

I am, etc.,

WARD MILLS
