BREESEJAMAICA'S CAPTAIN Gareth Breese believes his team wasn't ready to play and that was why they were outplayed and beaten by underdogs Windward Islands in yesterday's opening West Indies limited overs championship at Bourda Oval in Guyana.
"We really didn't play any cricket today," Breese told The Sunday Gleaner yesterday. "We had a bad day batting and bowling ... we didn't turn
up either. We were totally
outplayed today by the Windwards," Breese said.
Breese won the toss and elected to bat, a decision he defended.
NO EXCUSES
"It is a very flat pitch here at Bourda Oval. There are no excuses for the performances today, it was a bad one and all the guys know that."
Breese, in just his second tournament in charge, said poor umpiring also affected
his team.
"Towards the end, a few guys were unfortunate in getting very bad decisions. Carlton Baugh and (Tamar) Lambert; especially Baugh after starting to put a partnership together with Marlon Samuels and also myself after been judged lbw after playing the ball," he said.
"However, on a whole we must give the Windwards credit, they really bowled well."
Jamaica play the Leeward Islands today and Breese is aware that "we can't afford to drop any more points".
