Guns, ammo found in Three Miles community
published: Friday | October 22, 2004

THREE MORE guns were seized in the St. Andrew South Police Division yesterday, pushing the number of weapons found in that area to 81 since the start of the year.

Detective Inspector Altemorth Campbell of the Hunts Bay police station told The Gleaner that the weapons were found in the White Wing community of Three Miles. They are a Bryco 9mm pistol with six rounds; a Taurus Magnum revolver, which had six rounds and a Taurus 40 Caliber pistol, also with six rounds.

No arrests were made.

Detective Inspector Campbell said 14 guns have been found in the St. Andrew South Division since the start of October. He was unable to give the approximate number of arrests made in connection with these weapons but said they were "numerous".

On October 7, the Hunts Bay police found two guns, including an Ak-47 assault rifle at St. Paul's Church in Tower Hill. No one was arrested.

LULL IN GANG WARFARE

Meanwhile, the communities of Tower Hill and Olympic Gardens, which have experienced several outbursts of gang violence since last week, enjoyed a break from hostilities yesterday although police from the Hunts Bay and Olympic Gardens police stations maintained regular patrols.

Reports from the Hunts Bay station show that three persons have died in the Tower Hill area in gang-related incidents since Monday. The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Romeo McKenzie of 44 Tower Avenue; Warren Buchanan, 36, of 31 Hyde Park and 15-year-old Johnathan Morgan of 17 Jasmin Avenue.

McKenzie and Buchanan were killed on Tuesday while Morgan's body was discovered on Williams Crescent with multiple gunshot wounds.

The Hunts Bay police say they have made no arrests in connection with the killings.
