36 years with no electricity
published: Monday | October 25, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I'M VERY fed up in this day and age when it comes to the matter of electricity and bad roads, but mostly the electricity.

I'm living in Gavin Hill district, which is on the border of Manchester and Clarendon. My district adjoins Silent Hill. For the past 36 years Gavin Hill has been without electricity. Our district is fast developing and because of a lack of electricity a lot of our young people are leaving the district.

Our Member of Parliament, Richard Azan, promised us faithfully before the last general election that we will be getting the light, but to no avail. He went as far as telling us that the posts are in Spaldings. When JPS was running the light they did not come to the end of the road. Instead they stopped and did not finish the remaining three-quarter mile of roadway which required only eight posts.

We the residents are extremely fed up and angry with Mr. Azan for his constant but vain promises, although he gave light to the people of Sanguinetti. We have appliances and can't use them. We are telling Mr. Azan: No light, no vote. Carl Marshall also let us down.

We can't take it any more. The only resort we have left is to block the roads and I personally don't like that kind of action, but if that's what it takes to get the light, well so be it.

I am, etc.,

WENDY SWABY
