Prank claims life of 10-y-o
published: Monday | October 25, 2004

By Livingston G. Allen, Gleaner Writer

OLD HARBOUR BAY, St. Catherine:

TWO OLD Harbour Bay families are grief-stricken following the recent of death of young Kedeisha Smith as a result of a childish prank turned sour.

Reports are that on Friday, October 15, at about 11:40 a.m. 10-year-old Kedeisha and an 11-year-old classmate were playing a game of 'stucky' after which Kedeisha went to sit in her class. She stood up shortly afterwards and was in the act of sitting down again when her classmate pulled the chair from under her. Kedeisha fell and hit her head.

She was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital by teacher, Derwin Bernard, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Principal of the Old Harbour Bay Primary School Milton Wade said that the child has touched the lives of several teachers on the very morning of the incident. Kedeisha was given an 'early bird' award that morning; she had swept the classroom of grade one teacher, Janice McCalla, and bought lunch for the grade two teacher, Ms. H. Meikle and grade three teacher Ms. T. Knight.
