UWI's double standards
published: Tuesday | October 26, 2004
THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with alarm that I watched and listened to the recent confusion on the Mona campus. I am so embarrassed at the fact that students of such an august body displayed such boorish behaviour, albeit they knew the rules from day one. They are not to be blamed totally, because the administrators have shown double standards.
I am a part-time student, based at an outside site in rural Jamaica, and I had to pay for semesters one and two before I was accepted in any of the classes. To date, none of the students on this site has received identification cards, hence we are unable to access the library on campus and we do not have adequate reading materials to do our degree courses. It is beyond me that at this point in time, these students who have not paid their fees have access to the campus and we are left in the cold.
I am positive that the letters sent out to all the students had the same instructions re: the payment of their fees. I would like for the powers that be to avoid using double standards in their administrative duties, as this poses a problem for the paid-up students who are denied what is rightfully theirs. Will someone please shed some light on the above-mentioned situation?
I am, etc.,
