Good job, JPS more still to be done
published: Tuesday | October 26, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The Jamaica Public Service must be commended for the great job they are doing in trying to restore electricity to affected areas as a result of Hurricane Ivan.

I have observed members of the company working throughout the night. In fact, in my area, it was approximately 3:00 a.m. that the linesmen were on the light post working hard to ensure that electricity was restored.

One will agree that the extent of the damage done to power lines was terrible. I realise however that in most cases, this was as a result of the trees hanging over power lines, thereby creating the problem.

I am therefore calling on the Jamaica Public Service to revisit this practice of moving around to cut trees which are near to power lines. In so doing, there will be less damage and less embarrassment to the many who are still without this precious commodity since the hurricane.

I am, etc.,

REV. DR. DONALD A.

JOHNSON J.P.
