FTC: all bark, no bite?
published: Tuesday | October 26, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I ATTACH a copy of a letter to the Fair Trading Commission and their response dated June 30, 2004 regarding single-axle trucks being charged the same cost as multi-axled trailers.

I had written to your column in March of this year bringing this discrepancy to the attention of the public and since nothing happened, I wrote to the Fair Trading Commission on June 9, 2004.

It may be of interest to note that to date still nothing has been done by the operators of the Toll Plaza and small pick-ups and trucks are still being penalised as opposed to what is advertised on the sign post.

I would hate to think that the Fair Trading Commission is just another weak organisation which has bark but no bite.

I am, etc.,

PHILLIP HAWTHORN
