published: Tuesday | October 26, 2004

TWO PROMINENT businessmen were arrested yesterday by the Organised Crime Investigation Division, for breaches of the Trade Mark Act in separate incidents in the Corporate Area since October 15.

Those charged are 70 year-old Michael Ammar Snr., of King Street, Kingston, and 38-year-old Jiang Al Hur of Oxford Road, Kingston 5.

BRAND NAME INFRINGED

The Constabulary Communication Network's metro officer said that between 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 15, the police carried out an operation in the Village, Mall and Springs plazas, Constant Spring Road, St. Andrew. During the operation, two stores said to be owned by Mr. Ammar were searched and 51 pairs of LA Gear sneakers were deemed to have infringed on Puma's trademark.

In the other incident, between 11:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 22, business establishments owned by Ms. Hur at Clock Tower and Parkington plazas were searched. One hundred and seventeen pairs of stockings labelled 'Ivy', were also found in breach of the Green Pack brand name.

The two persons were arrested and charged and are scheduled to appear in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, November 2.
