Support for 'Kingfish'
published: Friday | October 29, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

'OPERATION KINGFISH' is better late than never. I think that Pearnel Charles doesn't get it when it comes to fighting crime. We have to go after criminals 'military style' if that is what it takes. Social and economic programmes are essential but right now we have to show the criminals that they are no longer in charge and they are the ones who will now live in fear.

No matter how good the economic situation is, some people will never seek legitimate jobs. Just ask the deportees. I support 'Operation Kingfish' and hope the law-abiding citizens of Jamaica come out in full support.

Jamaica has a nasty reputation for crime and a worse one for not doing anything about it. This is a right step in the right direction however late it is. I urge Jamaicans to get out into the streets and demonstrate (peacefully) to let the criminals know that they are being watched. Murderers, thieves and rapists are the lowest forms in Jamaica today and need to be eradicated.

I am, etc.,
