THE EDITOR, Sir:
WE ARE grateful for the sensitivity in the reporting by Angelo Laurence in today's (Wednes-day) Gleaner where it was made clear that the fire in Mandeville on Sunday night was not at the restaurant housed in the Bloomfield Great House. What confusion there has been and what distress it has caused us.
From Kingston-based delivery men not bothering to deliver goods but reporting to their companies, "I hear on the news Bloomfield burn down." to the stream of cars up our driveway presumably to gape at the supposed catastrophe, to "Oh gosh, we were coming up for our anniversary but we heard you were closed" ...it has been a nightmare.
The fire was NOT at Bloom-field GREAT House but rather at a GUEST house of the neighbouring Alpart executive housing complex. We are intact, open for business as usual, and look forward always to somewhat more positive attention to this gorgeous mid-island spot of which Mandeville and we, the great house staff are very proud.
We withstood Ivan (despite again, "public knowledge" that we suffered great damage,) and certainly last Sunday night there wasn't even smoke, which we Jamaicans rely on heavily and often erroneously, to confirm a fire.
I am, etc.,
PAMELA GRANT
