DUNOON TECHNICAL blanked St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) 2-0 to keep their hopes alive of advancing to the semi-finals of the Pepsi/Sports Plus Manning Cup at Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.

Dunoon now have three points and are joint top of Group Two with Mona, who play Camperdown today in a crucial game at Ferdie Neita Park.

Goals by Tofarie Failey and Carey Dalhouse in the 61st and 88th minutes respectively, were enough to sink STATHS who played with 10 boys for 55 minutes after defender Jeffery Grant was red carded in the 35th minute.

STATHS' assistant coach, Keith Nicholl, said his school had a bad day and their inability to score goal was crucial.

"It's just unfortunate. The lack of scoring goes back to the start of the competition. The forwards shut off again," he said.

However, he said the dismissal of Grant really hampered his team's chances of goining for a positive result.

"The red card really affected our match plan. These guys are young and don't know how to cope with the situation."

'PLAYED REALLY WELL'

Meanwhile Garfield Addison, Dunoon's assistant coach, said he was happy with the result as his team played well.

"We really played well. We played a spirited and patient game."

He added: "We lost a game against Mona which we shouldn't have lost as we outplayed them. We want to repeat our semi-final (showing) so we hope to get by Camperdown."

That game will be played on Tuesday at Campion College.

In Group One action, defending champions Excelsior trampled all over Tivoli to win 5-1 in the feature game at Prison Oval. In a first half blitz, Ricardo Ximines and Narado Brown grabbed two goals apiece to put Excelsior in pole position on six points, three more than Wolmer's and Calabar.

The green and black outfitted boys from Red Hills Road, led by two Cleyon Brown goals, clipped the wings of high-riding Wolmer's 3-2 in a pulsating clash at Emmet Park.

The group is still wide open as at least three teams can finish on six points if Wolmer's beat Excelsior and Calabar beat the hapless Tivoli in the final round of games on Tuesday in a double header at Prison Oval. Based on goal difference now though, Excelsior are in the driver's seat.
