SCORES OF traffic violators with unpaid tickets and outstanding warrants are reportedly turning themselves into the police to avoid prosecution.
This, after the police last month extended an amnesty to motorists to settle outstanding tickets without fear of being arrested.
"The response has been very good. So far 147 persons have come in. We have since executed 224 warrants," said Ealan Powell, senior superintendent in charge of the Police Traffic Division.
"Some of the motorists were given a piece of paper to take to court to clear up their traffic tickets," Powell told The Gleaner yesterday.
As a result of the response, at least 528 outstanding traffic tickets have now been cleared up, he added.
