Album: Kingston Five Records Presents The New Sound of Reggae
an album sampler
Artiste: Various
KINGSTON FIVE records calls this album sampler 'your personal passport to the freshest sounds coming out of Jamaica and New York,' but a few more adjectives are missing.
For the effort, words like clever and soulful come into play as well.
Kartel leads this race as he introduces listeners to the CD with the first track So Fine. In explicit fashion, he jumps into his now familiar double barrelled rhymes too, boasting of his skills to keep his female subject 'fine' in the day and night time.
Although the rhymes are clever on this track, Kartel's delivery is not as outstanding as on his more popular tracks.
Macka Diamond proves herself a versatile artist as she blends her vocals on a distinctly R&B beat with crooner Flava (Unit). Flava's voice sits well with the track, and Macka for once is not blasting the male gender but soulfully expresses her vulnerable feelings.
Buju Banton also gets into a soulful mood with the ballad called My Pen. Not known for many love tunes, Buju lets it all out on this one.
It also introduces some not so well known artistes to the public. Among these are Lady Posh, a saucy lyricist on the brink of bursting out, Tubby T, and Ms Dynamite. They get their chance to show off their skills in Ready She Ready and give a fair account of themselves.
Also on the sampler is the club banger Hyperventilatin by Tami Chin. This lively track adds variety to the CD, and if the album is anything like the sampler, the purchase will be good.
