JFJ needs balance

THE EDITOR, SIR:
THE LETTER published in The Gleaner of Saturday 6/11/04 entitled, 'The role of Jamaicans for Justice', has only served to confirm what I have been suspecting for a long time. When JFJ was formed we were told that they were human rights campaigners. However, it now seems that they are really anti-state campaigners. In the letter, the writer Jeanne Croskery states, "JFJ's role is to try to seek justice where it has been denied or subverted, particularly where the perpetrator is a part of the state or the very agents who have sworn to protect and serve."
I totally agree with the first part of that statement, however, the second section shows the narrow track that they have taken. If you should do a survey, it would show that they are only looking out for approximately 0.1 per cent or less of the total population and much more persons are denied justice. The state is not the only ones denying or subverting justice, possibly some of the very members of that organisation are or have denied justice to even their household helpers.
JFJ has sought to highlight what the state agencies have done and that is good but let us see some balance in what they do. Just as they cry out when the state does something wrong, let us hear the same cry when the criminals whether white, blue or pink collar seek to damage others in the society.
I am, etc.,
