Hardware stores to cut prices on material
published: Tuesday | November 16, 2004

By Rayon Dyer, Gleaner Writer

BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth

THE ST. Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce has successfully struck a deal with some eight hardware stores in the parish, which will see the stores involved reducing their prices on building material by as high as 20 per cent.

According to president of the chamber, Dr. Marc Panton, "The association felt the need to do something for the residents of the parish following what they had suffered during Hurricane Ivan. We are proud to be working with these hardware stores and the benefits will directly go to the persons most affected by the hurricane."

The participating stores are Hugh Forbes Hardware, Levy's Hardware, Southfield Hardware, Parchment Hardware, Coles Hardware, Camric Hardware, Levon's Electrical and Basil Johnson and Company.

COMMITMENT

"The acceptance of the participating stores will go a far way in helping residents in the parish to do significant repairs at a lower cost to their houses and other properties that were damaged by the recent hurricane," Dr Panton said, "I want to make it clear that the discount being offered is in relation to roofing materials and the offer will run until the end of November."

The commitment by the hardware stores is that they are all prepared to offer the residents discounts between 10, 15 and 20 per cent on selected items, respectively.

Dr. Panton also noted that the chamber is grateful for the commitment given by the store owners. He said the people of the parish will benefit greatly, especially individual homes that were damaged totally after the storm.

"This agreement with the hardware store owners indicates that there is a high level of cooperation among the business community in the parish. The chamber will continue to play its role in working with the business people in St. Elizabeth," Dr. Panton said.
