Special Customs import requirements
published: Tuesday | November 16, 2004

ARE YOUR family and friends overseas planning to send you a turkey, ham, fruits and vegetables for Christmas? You will need to observe the following guidelines:

The Ministry of Agriculture's Veterinary Division will be granting permits for small quantities of:

1. Turkey from anywhere

2. Leg ham from Canada

3. Tin ham from anywhere

Members of the public may apply in writing or visit the offices at 193 Old Hope Road, St. Andrew. Give the name, the quantity being sent and the place of origin of the product. Please make your request at least two weeks before the date of arrival of the goods.

The ministry's Plant Quarantine Division grants permits for fruits and vegetables in small quantities. Please apply in writing to the Chief Plant Quarantine Inspector, 193 Old Hope Road, St. Andrew.

This application may be sent via email - ppq@moa.gov.jm. - stating the name, quantity and origin of the product. The application may be hand-delivered. Please allow two working days for the processing of this permit.

The Customs Department advises that it is a breach of the Customs Act to import these products without the required permits. There will be NO accommodation for these imports if the required permits are not presented.
