Ben Francis KO semis on today
published: Tuesday | November 16, 2004

THIS SEASON'S Ben Francis Cup knockout semi-finalists will be decided today when Titchfield tackle Glenmuir at Carder Park and Frome face Lennon at Frome Sports Ground in games that were originally scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Both matches start at 2:30 p.m.

Defending daCosta Cup champions Frome, beaten finalists Titchfield and Glenmuir will want to stay on course for the rural area double after booking their semi-final berths in the daCosta semi-finals last Saturday.

In first round daCosta Cup matches, Titchfield defeated Dinthill 2-0, Glenmuir stopped Black River 3-0, Frome Technical edged Christiana 1-0, so too did Lennon against Godfrey Stewart.

It is expected that the Titchfield-Glenmuir clash at Carder Park will be the closest, unlike at Frome Sports ground where the homesters shouldn't have any problems in getting past Lennon.

Although he faces the toughest semi-final draw, Titchfield's coach Andrew Edwards said Titchfield's intention is to win everything available.

"We are going all out for a victory. Even getting into the final would be an achievement for the school," he said.

Glenmuir coach Jackie Walters said it will be a challenge playing away to Titchfield at Carder Park.

"I think the players will be highly motivated for the game because going to play at Carder Park one has to accept those kind of challenges going far away. We did fairly well at Frome. The players are really keyed up and ready for the game."

The daCosta Cup semi-finals will be played on Friday, not Saturday as originally scheduled. According to an ISSA release, the match was brought forward to facilitate Jamaica's Under-17 World Cup qualifying match against Haiti set for Saturday.

In the daCosta semis, Titchfield will benefit from a home match when they face Frome. Glenmuir are down to face Dinthill at Prison Oval.

Matches begin at 2:45 p.m.
