HE HAS mastered the art of playing the piano and organ, has a number of awards to his credit and is renowned for his recitals.
Now the Boston, United States-based Dr. Kaestner Robertson is returning to the place of his birth to participate in an organ recital, where he will be performing a piece entitled 'Inspirational Classics'.
Dr. Robertson will be in Jamaica as special guest at the Meadowvale Seventh-day Adventist Church on November 28, for an organ recital, which commences at 4:30 p.m.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Kaestner Robertson began formal piano studies at four years old with Carmen Falconer. Later, his studies with Rita Coore led to the LRSM, LTCL and FTCL diplomas. He was subsequently awarded a Jamaica Government Scholarship to study at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts in the U.S. There he studied the piano with the Hungarian pianist, Bela Nagy, and the organ with Dr. Max Miller.
He is the recipient of many awards, including prizes for piano performances, theory of music and summer study at the Tanglewood Summer Institute. He now holds a doctor of musical arts degree from Boston University.
INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION
Dr. Robertson has gained an international reputation as a pianist, organist, and collaborative pianist. He has appeared as soloist with several orchestras, including the premiere performance of Magarita Merriman's Concerto for piano (1995) with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra, under Maestro Toshimasa Wada.
Dr. Robertson has given recitals in the U.S., Canada, France, England, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Trinidad, Bermuda, the Bahamas and Jamaica. He has taught at the Jamaica School of Music, where he was chair of the Piano Department and chair of the Division of Western Music. Currently he serves as a professor of music at Atlantic Union College, So Lancaster, Massachusetts, where he has served as department chair.
Nigel Coke, communications director for the Meadowvale Seventh-day Adventist Church and member of the event's planning committee, said Robertson was specially invited because he is extremely good at what he does.
"Apart from the fact that he (Robertson) is a native of this country and he is also internationally renowned, he had been to Jamaica to perform before and he was well received, so people are really eager to see him come and perform again," Coke said.
Also included on the programme will be items from the Adventist Praise Chorale, Symphony of Praise, saxophonist Lennox Smart and poetry from the Meadowvale Speech Chorale.
